About The Plants

Coffee plant in a red clay planter.

Plant Independence

Agricultural independence starts with the people. Your independence starts with you.

This is a coffee plant. Many of us are addicted to coffee. The plants won't like winter here, but they are gorgeous plants and they can do just fine indoors.

The USA imports nearly all coffee.

Grow all year in Jacksonville

At WorkshopJAX we help start plants that will succeed with a little thought and care. Many of them don't need a lot of space.

Herbs for Flavor

From the mint family we have mint, and basil, and rosemary, maybe lavender, sage, and thyme.

From the carrot family, we have cilantro, dill (shown), cumin, parsley, fennel, maybe caraway.

The carrot family also has some very dangerous plants that are becoming a menace as weeds locally.

Herbs for health

Purple coneflower - Echinacea purpurea, helps support the immune system against colds and respiratory infections. People are often allergic, otherwise we'd have fewer colds.

Milk thistle - Silybum marianum, supports your liver function.  It is very effective. Sometimes it interacts with how your liver processes your medications.

Both of these are in the daisy family.
